Alright, so most of you know that I have 2 little girls who keep me running, right? And no matter how much I love them, there’s just no denying that they’re exhausting – they listen only to each other, and I end up wondering why I’m talking to myself all day.
I thought we were all in the same boat, until Rebecca brought her troop to my little Culver City alleyway for Mom’s Day Out. This was one of those sessions that made me just love being a family photographer.
Asher, Lexi, and Bella (ages 4 1/2, 2 1/2, and 1 1/2) are a joyful gaggle of cuties. Photographing three siblings so young, I thought I had my work cut out for me, but get this – these kids follow directions!! Like REALLY REALLY WELL! So well, in fact, that I wasn’t sure what to tell them.
Since we planned ahead of time, Rebecca pulled out her bag of tricks with all their favorites… Bouncing balls, a whole lovely cloud of colorful silks, and a few wholesome snacks. Then we played ring around the rosy with lots of hugging, some jumping, a little tossing… very sweet fun.
Miss Rebecca, you’re an incredible Momma. You are amazingly graceful with your children, and you make it look easy.
Another pair of lovely ladies from Mom’s Day Out in Culver City – aren’t they adorable?
But… about 5 minutes into our time together, Coco decided she was done. “No more pictures,” she said demurely, about every 45 seconds. But as I always do when one of the kiddos tries to stop the show, we just turned it into games of tag, hide and seek, dodge the photographer, climb on Momma, and whatever else kept her smiling… I kind of secretly love it when one of the kiddos plays these games, because I know Mom’s probably given up her hopes for great photos. In fact, she’s likely expecting something truly terrible, which makes it so fun for me to deliver great faces like this first closeup of Coco… portfolio-worthy for sure!
These two gals showed up for Mom’s Day Out, and for once I got to shoot some grownups!
Mary and her daughter Megan came out just to have some fun, and that’s exactly what we did. And yes – I am posting some of the goofy outtakes here too, but I just can’t help myself… they’re so much fun! I wish I’d had such a great head on my shoulders when I was a teenager. Megan’s really down to earth and easy to be around, I was super impressed and so glad they came to play.
Talk about a man on the run! This little guy never stopped moving during the morning I spent with him, and didn’t I get a great workout!
We headed first to the Venice Beach boardwalk for some skateboard time, and then walked out on the sand to make the most of the California coast and the gorgeous blue sky. I have to say, as much as I love them all, I’m really partial to the last few shots of the day. Once we strapped Charlie into his carseat and headed home, he was thrilled to bits to have Emily in the backseat to play with. I couldn’t help but snap a few more photos as he giggled up a storm…
